A Perfect Circle [2018]

MONDAY 10/29 • 7:30 PM • THE FOX THEATRE

A Perfect Circle formed in 1999 with principal members Billy Howerdel (Ashes Divide) and Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer) creating a fluid band where line-ups were free to shift with each ensuing album. The band's 2000 debut album, Mer de Noms, found Howerdel and Keenan joined by drummer Josh Freese, Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, Sweethead) and Paz Lenchantin (Zwan). A Perfect Circle released Thirteenth Step in 2003, featuring the band's biggest single to date "Weak and Powerless." Joining Howerdel, Keenan and Freese for the remainder of the first wave of A Perfect Circle albums and tours were Jeordie White (aka Twiggy from Marilyn Manson) and James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins). The band's third release, eMOTIVe, arrived in November of 2004 and boasted a wide-ranging collection of covers which reflected the year's political climate (John Lennon's "Imagine," Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" and Devo's "Freedom Of Choice" were among the songs included) as well as a pair of original songs penned by Howerdel and Keenan (with a co-writing credit for "Passive" going to Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor). A self-imposed hiatus ensued shortly thereafter and lasted until the fall of 2010 when A Perfect Circle announced fourteen live dates (all sold out in under one minute) in the Western U.S and a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band followed with a North American tour in the summer of 2011, which once again sold out immediately and included a performance at Lollapalooza. In 2013, A Perfect Circle played the Soundwave Festival in Australia and a made a South American trek with stops at Lollapalooza Brazil and Chile. A Perfect Circle's current line-up is Howerdel, Keenan, Iha, Jeff Friedl and Matt McJunkins (Ashes Divide, Puscifer).

About
Mermaid Motor Lounge is acoustic dexterity accompanied by sound from bass, electric guitar, fiddle, harmonies, and percussion. www.mermaidmotorlounge.com

Biography
Depending on the lore, Mermaids are saints and saviors, or they’re muses and murderers. Josh Erwin is hosting them all at the Mermaid Motor Lounge. Delivering songs of damning relief as well as happy despair, Mermaid Motor Lounge is releasing their debut album, “Fits and Starts,” an opportunity for Erwin to perform churning and bumping rhythms along with atmospheric and dreamy melodies.

There is a cohesiveness to this collection of songs on “Fits and Starts.” The local coloring of reverbs on electric guitars and fiddles have just as an important of a role as the percussion. The melody lines lie easily on a bed of guitar, bass, and background vocals. These songs have a comforting familiarity, but there are still some unexpected musical shifts that keeps a listener on his toes. The theme of this album was to make the music dynamic by working with non-standard rock band instrumentation. By only relying on acoustic guitar, upright bass, vocals, electric guitars, fiddle, and percussion instruments it allowed the production to be more thought out. Oftentimes, nontraditional percussion adds great flavors to music that is not captured by a standard 4 piece drum kit. Nonetheless, a drum kit was used on the track, “The Preacher Tampered With The Radar”-- too tempting to pass up a 28" marching kick drum thundering through the back beat.

Nine songs were recorded at Standard Electric Studios by Damon Moon, who co-produced the album alongside Josh Erwin. Josh (guitars and vocals), Troy Harris (basses), Jenna Mobley (fiddle and background vocals), and Colin Agnew (percussion) performed all the music on the album. Damon was at the helm of Tascam M-600 serial #001 helm, turning knobs on the Echoplex EP-3 and Space Echo RE-201 [for all the fun stuff], and supervised vocal mic selections, compressors, and other dynamic effects.

At first, Mermaid Motor Lounge was purely a challenge to showcase a live-show based around Erwin’s own material on his own alongside Harris. The experimentation with new songs performed with only guitar, vocals, and bass on stage was too seductive to leave in the hypothetical. The sustain-elements of electric guitar and fiddle shape and form the music’s sonic-space, while the percussion carries the songs along.

Together, Josh and Troy have played thousands of shows and bear copious on-stage experience. With their powers funneled into a full band experience, Mermaid Motor Lounge performances are fueled by an instinct that's been building up over years and years.

Prime Social Group announces the highly anticipicated phase one lineup for the first Breakaway Music Festival in Nashville, TN. The two-day festival is set to take place October 5-6 at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park.

Breakaway Nashville carefully explores the intersection of hip-hop and electronic music resulting in a supremely curated lineup that includes some of the most impressive names in the industry with festival headliner Wiz Khalifa, Illenium, Lil Pump, Russ, 3LAU, Gryffin, Lil Skies, NGHTMRE, Quinn XCII, Justin Caruso, Mike Floss, Shaun Frank, and more to be announced.

“Nashville has been waiting for an event just like Breakaway. This place is called the ‘Music City’ for a reason. It’s not just old country; Nashville is a melting pot of young people and music that needs a millennial driven music festival which is exactly what Breakaway Nashville is,” PSG Nashville Market Manager, Blake Miller said.

Rounding out the hip-hop portion of the bill is multi award-winning artist Wiz Khalifa, best known for his grammy nominated “Black and Yellow” track and his many collaborations with artists like Snoop Dogg and Bruno Mars (“Young, Wild & Free”), Maroon 5 (“Payphone”), The Weeknd (“Remember You”), and Charlie Puth (“See You Again”). Coming off his heels, Wiz was awarded BET’s Best New Artist Award in 2011 and Billboard’s 2012 Top New Artist, and has kept his spot on the top of the charts ever since.

Also bringing world-class talent to Nashville is EDM producer Illenium, known for his ability to engage listeners with immersive emotional experiences with tracks like “Feel Good” and “Crawl Outta Love”. Breakaway Nashville will feature a live performance from Illenium, incorporating keyboards, drum pads, and world-class lighting and visuals, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for the crowd.

Also helping to round out the hip-hop portion of the phase one lineup is Miami’s 17-year-old Lil Pump. Starting to make music and releasing tracks in just 2016, he became a star almost overnight. He’s best known for his certified platinum track “Gucci Gang” which peaked at number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and debuted his first studio album Lil Pump just last year. Also set to perform is Russ, coming off his 2017 Columbia Records signing and release of his first major-label debut, There’s Really a Wolf, which went platinum. As of 2018, he’s accumulated over 1.5 billion streams and hit double platinum and gold with multiple singles including “Losin Control” and “What They Want”.

Coming in 2018, Breakaway Music Festival will not only expand to Nashville’s Bicentennial Capitol Mall Oct. 5-6, but will also return to Columbus’ Mapfre Stadium Aug. 24-26, Grand Rapids’ Belknap Park Aug. 24-25, Charlotte’s AvidXchange Music Factory Oct. 12-13 and took place in Dallas’ Toyota Music Factory in April.

“We started this festival by combining urban living with a carefully curated, multi-genre lineup that festival goers of all ages and music preferences could enjoy. After just four years, Breakaway Columbus has grown into a large-scale festival home to over 25,000 attendees, which has inspired us to spread the festival brand to other markets. Every city could use their own festival to call home— we’re really excited for what the future looks like,” Managing Partner, Adam Lynn explained.

Tickets are on sale now at www.nashville.breakaway.com. Two-day passes start at $99. Stay tuned for the phase 2 artist announce and single day tickets to be released. This event is all ages and outdoors rain or shine.

Matt and Kim [2018]

Matt and Kim [2018]

Indie dance duo Matt and Kim first made waves in the mid-2000s with an engaging and energetic live show that earned the duo the title of “quintessential party band.” Then, their exuberant Billboard Hot 100 hit “Daylight” broke through in 2009, making Matt and Kim a household name. In the nine years since “Daylight’s” triumphant success, Matt and Kim haven’t coasted. They have continued to produce well-crafted songs and albums on top of defending their claim to the “quintessential party band” title with unbelievable displays of talent and honest-to-goodness fun.

This Monday, September 10, Atlanta will host the magnetic duo at Buckhead Theater for a can’t-miss show. Coming back to Atlanta on the heels of an electric Shaky Knees performance, Matt and Kim are ready to build on that energy while celebrating their newest album ALMOST EVERYDAY. ALMOST EVERYDAY is the product of Kim Schifino’s excruciating on stage injury last year in Mexico. After the incident forced the band into a one-year hiatus, Matt and Kim penned their most personal album to date. Beyond its deep emotional meaning to the band, it’s also the only Matt and Kim album to feature guest vocalists like Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, Flosstradamus, Kevin Morby and more.

Come experience the renewed and reinvigorated Matt and Kim at Buckhead Theater on Monday, September 10.

ONE Music Festival is Back in Atlanta and Stacked With Superstar Headliners

ONE Musicfest is no stranger to Atlanta. Each year the festival packs out the city with music lovers and incredible talent. The festival has a new location in Central Park downtown where both of the Shaky music festivals hosted their events this past year. This new location provides opportunities for three stages and double the number of artists performing. With the new space, festival goers are encouraged to take MARTA, or a rideshare or they will have compimentary bicyle valet available as parking is very limited.

Early in the summer, following the birth of her child, Cardi B pulled out as a headliner but was quickly replaced by 2 Chainz who will be joining fellow ATLiens T.I. and Jeezy. If that's not enough for any Atlanta hip-hop fan to buy their ticket throw in Youngbloodz, Kilo Ali, Trillville, The East Side Boyz and Ying Yang Twins and your head might explode from excitement.

On top of all things crunk - Nas, DVSN, Big Sean and Teedra Moses will also headline Saturday and on Sunday attendees can look forward to singer Brandy and female rapper Rapsody. Souful performances by Miguel and George Clinton and the Parliment Funkadelic are scheduled on the Ford Stage along with several other big name acts. A host of local Atlanta DJs are set to grace the Smokin Shells stage including DJs Kemit, Osho, Danny M, Ree De La Vega, Sofa King Evil, EU and Salah Ananse

If you are hip hop and/or house music fan we suggest you buy tickets to ONE Musicfest like yesterday. It's the perfect union of genres and a space created for music lovers, POC and allies alike to unite. Bring your game face because it's about to be lit!
