KAYA FEST (www.kayafestivals.com)-a two-day all-ages music and awareness experience set for April 28 & 29 at the NOS Events Center in Southern California-held a press conference this past Monday, March 12, welcoming the festival to Southern California. The press conference took place at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood with KAYA FEST founder Stephen Marley and his brothers and fellow festival performers Damian Marley and Julian Marley participating.

During the conference, the brothers discussed the festival’s diverse line-up of reggae and reggae-influenced music (beyond many members of the Marley family performers range from friends Ms. Lauryn Hill, SOJA and Cypress Hill to Action Bronson, Chronixx, and Common Kings, plus special guest Tom Morello), the first time the Marley family will perform on one bill together in Southern California in over a decade and details of a cannabis-focused symposium that will take place on the Thursday (April 26) prior to the festival. They also performed an acoustic rendition of the Bob Marley classic “Could You Be Loved.”

Some noteworthy quotes from Stephen Marley at the press conference:

“Most of the people on the lineup are our friends. People we make music with and we’re fans of their music as well. Most of those people are a part of this movement and aligned with the cause of the movement.”

“It’s a festival where it has a certain spirit about it. It’s for everyone, from the baby suckling to the elders. “

“We’re very excited to come together (as brothers) and play music here in California.”

“We’re very proud of the third generation coming of age. Them find them part and it just leads to the same vibration.”

“It’s definitely as close to Bob as we could ever get. When all of our spirits come together and we transcend that out there (to the crowd). We definitely feel it every time.”

“The purpose of the gathering as well, music brings people together of course, but we still have a greater cause we serve which is this plant called cannabis and the various different benefits of this plant, which some people know and some people don’t know.”

“Kaya Fest is the next platform that we use to bring people together, teach them, tell them the truth, you know. Not all miracles come from the sky. Some miracles come from the earth and herb is one of those.”

After the press conference, the brothers headed to Billboard for a Facebook Live performance and interview. Watch the video-which has amassed to date over 1.7 million views here: https://www.facebook.com/Billboard/videos/10156307862264581/
