[017 BulletCast] WEHBBA's Jet Lag Mix
Joining us for this edition on BulletCast, we have the Barcelona-based artist, WEHBBA. He's featured on labels like Tronic, Elevate and Bedrock, and with some exciting new projects for 2017 to look forward to. WEHBBA enjoys meditation, his French bulldog Ozzy, and the magic of the underground Sydney clubs.
I hear you enjoy meditation, does it help with creative influence while you're in the studio?
Yeah definitely, almost to the point that I can not create anymore if I’m not focused and doing it properly. Sometimes I get lazy and I don't practice it as much as I should and I get stuck. Once I start to meditate more regularly, things flow really fast. It’s a big part of me, not only for creating music in the studio but for every aspect of my life.
How often do you meditate?
Normally twice a day.
Your french bulldog, Ozzy, does he travel with you often? How do you keep your bond alive while you're out touring?
Actually, Ozzy is not with us at the moment. We just moved to Barcelona about a year ago and are still trying to figure out how to bring him over without him suffering too much. It’s a long flight from São Paulo to Barcelona and has some tricky routing. For now, he is staying with relatives in Brazil. So he is not with us for the time being but hopefully, that will be sorted soon. I do fly often to Brazil, maybe four or five times a year and I stay there for a few weeks. So I keep him with me when I’m there.
2017 marks your first Australian tour which will be followed by numerous U.S. gigs. How is the tour going so far?
I just got back from Australia actually this week and I’m suffering from jet lag like crazy. And now I’m gonna go to the other side of the world, to America next week! So it’s been an amazing tour so far in Australia and New Zealand. It was my first time in New Zealand, that country is so beautiful, and it is actually going to be my first time in the U.S. as well. I’m really looking forward to it.
You’ve mentioned Sydney is where it all started for you. Can you tell us that story?
I moved to Australia when I was about to go on to college. I lived there for a few months, and I started to go clubbing with some people down there. I didn't used to go clubbing to underground electronic music clubs back in Brazil, there weren't that many in the late 90’s. There were a few, but not many that I knew of at the time. So then I went to Australia and I met some people that were into it and they started to drag me into the clubs, and they just blew me away. I fell in love with the lifestyle, with everything about it. When I got back to Brazil I started to collect records and look for stuff I would listen to back in Australia. So that's how I actually got started.
What are some projects you can tell us about that are coming up for you in 2017?
I have a lot of exciting projects at the moment, but I can’t really speak too much about them yet! I’ve just finished a remix for a very special artist from Detroit that was a very big influence for me. That is going to be coming out on Tronic in the first half of the year. I’m also in talks with one of my all time favorite labels to set up some stuff that I can’t mention yet. And I will be doing some things with Akai now. They are releasing a new line of products and I will be one of the artists developing things with the new product.
