German native and artist to the core, Miyagi has continuously impressed not only myself, but the entire house and techno scene as his musical talent has become more apparent to the world. Often mixing in beautiful melodic sounds and vocals into his sets, his sound often brings to surface an emotional response. He also runs a label, Lost Diaries, and is a host for the infamous WEIRD event held in Hamburg. This mix for the 9th installment of BULLETCAST is no exception in showcasing his affinity for music.
Thank you for chatting with us, have you been well?
Hey guys, I have thank you!
Tell us about your Burning Man experience and getting to play a sunrise set on the Kazbah stage?
This year was my third trip to the playa and I’ve noticed, Burning Man never disappoints. To be in the desert for a whole week feels like an emotional roller coaster. But the positive feelings always dominate. I also have had the honor to play at the Kazbah since my first burn. I was very happy to get the sunrise slot. You can take the people on a musical journey while they are dancing, relaxing or watching the beautiful sunrise.
You seem to have an appreciation and talent for photography from looking through your social posts. Is that something you really enjoy as a hobby or something you ever think of doing semi-professionally?
At the moment, it’s just a hobby and I’m taking photos with my iphone. But I plan to buy a camera in the near future to capture all the special moments while I’m traveling. Maybe it will become more than a hobby. I’m very interested in it and let’s see what the future brings.
The track “Woodpeckers Love Affair” has made a reappearance with new artists in the mix and vocals from Jan Blomqvist. Does this track hold a special place in your heart for you?
"Woodpeckers Love Affair" has been one of my first productions and I was very proud that Sascha Braemer and Dan Caster made a remix. Their version became very big and hit the Top 20 in Beatport’s Tech House charts. When I met Jan Blomqvist for the first time at a gig in Stuttgart, he told me that he loved the song and wanted to do some vocals. So two years later, the new "Woodpeckers Love Affair" finally came out.
How did the WEIRD events start? What got you into hosting and what do you want your party goers to get from the WEIRD experience?
We’ve started the WEIRD events exactly five years ago and our aim was to create an extraordinary experience for clubbers in Hamburg. The concept was to book a number of well-known DJs and combine the music with performance acts, special decoration and light shows. The event is a highlight for eyes and ears.
Are there any future projects you’re working on that you’d like to share?
At the moment I’m doing a lot of music. Beside my solo project I am going to release a collaboration with David Hasert, which I’m really looking forward to. I am also focusing on my new label Lost Diaries, a collection of mystic tales.
