420 Playlist: Get Your Smoke On

420 Playlist: Get Your Smoke On

The best thing about 4/20 is that we keep it such a secret. It’s almost like we can’t talk about it. It’s not tacky like Christmas or the 4th of July where we hang decorations and sing out loud in public. It's a secret and sacred holiday that only a select few take part in. However, for this glorious occasion, we made a playlist just for you. Happy 4/20 to those of you who celebrate!

1. “Roll Me Up” – Willie Nelson and friends

You are basically living under a rock if you don’t know who Willie Nelson is. He’s like the country king of weed. Enough said. Willie Nelson featuring Snoop Dogg? The end.

2. “The Next Episode” – Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg

Smoke Weed Everyday”

You cannot ignore this song ever. Anyone hears this song and they know at least this one line. This is the mother of all songs and it has been remixed into several EDM songs over time.

3. “Redemption Songs” – Bob Marley

Oh, Bob, why did you have to leave us so soon? You chill and puff to every single Bob Marley song ever. He controls your high through his music.

4.     “Aquemini” – Outkast

You could listen to Outkast all of 4/20 if you wanted to, but I’ll leave you just one song or else this playlist would never end. Sit back and slip into a deep chill zone.

5.     “Badfish” – Sublime

This song by Sublime has such a reggae feel to it. I feel like I’m on the beach and everything about the beach makes me relax to enjoy myself.

6.     “Bowl For Two” – The Expendables

What would 4/20 be if you don’t share it with someone? “Bowl For Two” you can listen to with your smoke buddy or special someone. If you aren’t packing the bowl for two are you really packing a bowl at all?

7.     “Closer to the Sun” – Slightly Stoopid

Everything Slightly Stoopid does, you can get high to. I’ll leave you just one, but it’s one of the best. The guitar in this song gets me.

8.     “Burn One” – Fortunate Youth

We gonna, roll one up, roll one up say/Just to burn one down/ So pass it around, pass it around ya”

If those lyrics aren’t explanation enough then I’m not sure what is.

9.     “Burn One Down” – Ben Harper

This song should not only be the theme song of a ganja-smoking pacifist, it would be everyone’s theme song. The lyrics are peaceful and I feel all around happy.

10. “1st of Tha Month” – Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Basically, this should be your good morning song. Kind of a wake and bake if you will. Sadly, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony don’t have everything on Spotify or this playlist may be all of their songs.

11.  “Where’s Da Bud” – Three 6 Mafia

This song has iconic lyrics that anyone can catch onto quickly and sing along. Honestly, I’m singing it right now with no music.

12. “Who’s Got the Herb” – 311

We have yet another kind of a nod to reggae with this song. When it’s 4/20 you can never have enough reggae. “Who’s Got the Herb” is the true question of every smoking occasion. The true question is not lost in this song.

13. “Hit from the Bong” – Cypress Hill

Cypress Hill has always kind of reminded me of a high Slim Shady. I love everything about Slim Shady and I especially love everything about Cypress Hill. Jam to this song while you take your own hits from whatever method you deem worthy.

14. “Budsmokers Only” – Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

If you don’t smoke or celebrate the holiday, that is okay. I’m not going to exclude you even though this song may sound like I am. It’s a great song regardless. Anything Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is great, to be honest. That’s why this is their second appearance on this playlist.

15. “Medicated” – Wiz Khalifa

I love everything Wiz Khalifa and it wouldn’t be a smoke playlist without the king of Mary Jane. Take a listen to this song and get “Medicated.” (See what I did there?)

16. “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High” – Arctic Monkeys

During this event, don’t make the phone call. Set your phone aside and enjoy yourself. You don’t want someone to ask you this question tomorrow, or ever for that matter. Especially not your ex or your parents.

17.  “The Joker” – Steve Miller Band

This is the song that proves your parents were once smokers. If they listen to this song and sing it with some oomph then you know. If you’re blasting this song in your basement, your parents will know. Either way, Steve Miller Band was one of the favorite and most coveted shows I’ve ever been to. This song is everything you need to give yourself a well-rounded 4/20.

18. “So High” – Wiz Khalifa & Ghost Loft

Once again, Wiz has his own line of reefer. I’m starting to think there may be a conspiracy about that, or it might just be the weed talking.

19. “Young, Wild, & Free” – Wiz Khalifa

I remember when this song was released and we used to drive around singing it at the top of our lungs. At that point, I thought I would get arrested for singing it. However, you choose to listen to this song, relish it. This song reminds me to keep on keeping on and doing what makes me happy.

20. “Trippy” – Lil Wayne & Juicy J

This song is for the stoned. If you are on cloud sixty-nine instead of cloud nine, then you are absolutely stoned. So it’s about time to pass and hopefully, this song will help you remember that.
