[Tribute] Rest in Peace, Speakerfoxxx

Fierce, headstrong rockstar - that’s how I’ll always remember Nilan Christen, a.k.a. Speakerfoxxx. To know her was to love her radiance.

As a multipotentialite, Nilan was brilliant at everything - DJing, fashion, style, and hair, to name a few of her many talents. Everything she did was just so...badass.

Working with this bright star was a privilege. Nilan loved performing, art, trap-rap, 808s and most of all, representing Atlanta. Promoting her mixtapes was a thrill and I spent some of my best ATL nights at her DJ gigs. She kept me on my toes with her energy, dedication and brainful of new ideas.

Nilan was a true Aries, a leader, and she lived every moment to the fullest.

She touched many lives, including the following friends I asked to share a few words:

“I’m so sad that this has happened and I will think of her every day for all the days of my life. We were best friends, inseparable. We called ourselves Berry and Veronica. We had our first print publication together in Jezebel magazine in 2009. She was my everything,” DJ Roots Queen

“She was a great friend and DJ,” Gangsta Boo.

“I will always have your back, you will always be with me,” Daniel Pollard, HXV

“Nilan as my friend was the sweetest, kindest, giving, caring, stay-in-touch, genuinely spirited, fun and loving, super fly lady. Speakerfoxxx as a professional was extremely passionate, talented, and her growth spurt from when she started until the latter was ridiculous. From Boiler Room, to Fools Gold, SXSW to TomorrowWorld, the Academy to Gangsta Boo’s DJ, Girls In The Yard project to our crew Queen Cartel, I salute my sister for putting in work & breaking barriers. We took a big L. Foxxx is a legend in the DJ community. She was special...and now her legacy will live on forever. That’s my sister,” DJ Princess Cut

“I remember about 9 yrs ago when she told me she first wanted to DJ. DJ Burn-One was a trusted friend and they started mapping out a plane. She was a really great friend and a one of the most, talented, stylish and most of all one of the kindest people In Atlanta/the industry!! She hit every goal that she set out to do and I was more than proud. I will be starting our Mindful Manifestation Monday’s back once or twice a month in honor of Nilan,” Mali Hunter, Tree Sound Studios

We lost a gem this week. I’m saddened to write this piece on my birthday, but I’m honored to share a message from the one-and-only Speakerfoxxx:

“Cherish the Gift of Life.”

The Memorial service to honor and remember the life of Nilan Christen, aka Speakerfoxxx, will be held Saturday, December 29th at 1 pm in Atlanta at Passion City Church.

Let’s turn up one final time, until we meet again on the other side:
