America's unofficial poet laureate, Kendrick Lamar, yes, King Kendrick Lamar, dropped a new album cover, single, and release date yesterday without any type of official announcement or press release (In fact, he already deleted the album cover Instagram post). Compton, California’s ambassador to the world released his newest single, “The Heart Part 4” in the dead of the night.

The single, which looks to be part of his newest album, IV  , (Writer's Note: after publication of this article, Kendrick has since stated that this song will not  be included in IV  ) is yet another musical transformation for K-Dot. No longer filled with jazz beats and old-school samples, the new single emphasizes lyrical structure and has layers upon layers of meaning to sift through.

One message that comes through loud and clear in the song is contained in one of the last lines of the song. “You know what time it is, ante up, this is in forever / Y’all got ‘til April the 7th to get y’all shit together.”

Yep. April 7, 2017. IV now has a release date in the most Kendrick way possible. His fifth studio album is only three weeks away, which is three weeks too far. Keep an eye out for at least one more single before the album drops. No pre-order is available at this time.
