Welcome to Rockville is hosted from April 27th to April 29th in downtown Jacksonville's Metropolitan Park. For those of you unfamiliar with this Florida festival, it is dedicated to rock legends and has embraced Jacksonville for several years now. Rockville is produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, who also contributes to Rock On The Range, Louder Than Life, and Carolina Rebellion amongst others. Need I say more? Well, of course, there are more than just potatoes on this plate:
Okay, so lets start with music. With headliners like Foo Fighters, Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Godsmack, and Stone Temple Pilots leading a bill featuring lesser-known bands, Rockville is a guaranteed good time, in that it gives you new music while also sprinkling in a healthy amount of nostalgia. So, it's okay dad, there’s some music for you too - take a trip down memory lane! Starting at 1:30 pm EST, there are three stages and fifty bands for your viewing and listening pleasure each day, be it on the Monster Energy Stage, the Metropolitan Stage, or on the River Stage. For more information on who’s playing, see the full schedule here.
Food & Drinks
With sponsors like Bud Light, Samuel Adams Sam ’76 (a new combo of lager and ale), Jack Daniel’s, Three Olives Vodka, Kraken Black Spiced Rum and Jose Cuervo Tequila, you have several fueling options alongside a seemingly endless supply of food vendors. These vendors will be offering vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan eateries and will have everything from funnel cakes, to BBQ, to noodles (I have yet to try the food trucks/places listed so stay tuned for our Rockville review). There shall also be Caduceus Cellars & Merkin Vineyards Wine Garden hosted by Maynard James Keenan, co-founder of bands Tool, A Perfect Circle (check out our Nashville review and photos), and Puscifer. Mrkt N Jolt will also be catering to your caffeine needs, while Heavy Tiki will be swirling mixed drinks and cocktails.
On top of those sweet VIP packages, several organizations will have booths set up, these including: Love Hope Strength, Take Me Home, Fxck Cancer X Dyin 2 Live Dreams Program, Zippo, The Music Experience, F.Y.E. Fan Experience (fans can join in on signings and meet and greets), and SWFTCharge (a purchasable wireless charging service). Of course, there will be plenty others to choose from, so your weekend is unlikely to be a quiet one in-between sets.
What To Bring
We'd recommend keeping the GoPro at home unless you have that golden media badge; feel free to snap the action on your polaroid, phone, or point and shoot camera though. Bags must be kept to a minimum size and be handheld, mesh, and/or drawstring. Of course, you will want to protect yourself from Florida’s temperamental weather and glaring sun so keep the sunscreen, hats, ponchos, and sunglasses to hand. You are also allowed to bring in one 20oz factory sealed water bottle and, trust me, you will need it.
