In an interesting appearance on Monday, February 6, Run The Jewels appeared on NPR performing for their Tiny Desk series. The duo Killer Mike and El-P, backed by DJ Trackstar seemed to be enjoying every minute as they loosely yet energetically performed “Talk to Me," “Legend Has It,” and “A Report to the Shareholders.”  What might have seemed as a stark contrast between sterile, brightly lit office environment and a major rap group, there was no pretension or discomfort shown as they flubbed lyrics and ad-libbed, with El-P sipping a pint of whiskey between tracks, then engaging the office staff in call-and-response chants.

You know why they do these things, right? Because for at least one week you can not complain about your fucking job. One week. I’m guessing they scheduled this shit right before everyone has to do a lot of work. -El-P

RTJ is known for fierce lyrical content and a no-holds-barred approach regarding many social issues. Killer Mike has been a Bernie Sanders supporter appearing with the former candidate at many rallies. After working up a sweat towards the end of the segment Killer Mike paused to reject the notion of them being a so-called political rap group:

We don’t care what party you belong to, we don’t care who you supported, we don’t care what you’re doing tomorrow politically. We care that socially- every one of you know that you’re absolutely born free, and nothing has a right to interrupt that freedom. We love you. -Killer Mike
