Tragedy Strikes at Blue Parrot during BPM in Playa Del Carmen
Multiple sources have reported a shooting at BPM Music Festival in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. During Elrow's closing party at Blue Parrot night club multiple shots were fired killing up to five people and injuring up to fifteen others including three security guards hired by the festival. Reports that the shooting was drug related have not yet been confirmed by state officials.
BPM made an official statement on social media this morning.
The below video and audio were released by The Guardian in a report earlier today.
Valerie Lee, Mixmag’s US digital editor, who was at Blue Parrot when the shooting happened, depicted her experience on Twitter.

A security guard tried to coerce us and say it was safe, then others confirmed they saw a gun and we hid under a metal table in panic— ✌alerie (@valerie___lee) January 16, 2017
Police took over 10 minutes to arrive. Victims likely include tourists/party goers, poss a security guard. Not clear what the motive was yet— ✌alerie (@valerie___lee) January 16, 2017
People across the globe are mourning this senseless tragedy. This will be a huge blow to Mexico's tourist industry. BPM was celebrating it's 10-year anniversary in Playa Del Carmen and brings some of the biggest DJs in the world.
Outraged by the events in Playa del Carmen, the same Mexicans destroying the few tourism we have left in the country. Thanks to all who reached out to me, fortunately I was not in that place and therefore I am well. I am touched by the pain of this act of violence and meaningless. My thoughts and prayers with all the victims, their families and all those affected by this tragic event. #BPM #BPM2017 #BPMFestival
What happened at @thebpmfestival has left me in shock and frozen for the last hour. When we go to these events, we go to join with others from around the world and share our love for music in a safe space where we can forget the darkness that exists in the world. Peace and love are core values in our community. Each time we get on the dancefloor, we unify and celebrate life together. I am thinking about everyone at BPM right now. May those that have been lost rest in peace, and those injured be healed. To my friends that are confirmed to be okay, I'm so thankful to hear - could barely breathe checking for Facebook updates from you. Get home safe. Everyone keep the confirmations that you're ok rolling in. And, just like we in the electronic music community turn to music in all other life situations, let's turn to it again now ❤ I hope this never happens again. . . #techno #technolove #technomusic #music #technoculture #welovetechno #deeptechno #igers #igersoftheday #rave #technolovers #technolife #technofamily #instalike #torontoigers #instagood #undergroundmusic #torontoravecommunity #edmlife #electronicmusic #edmlifestyle #deeptechnomusic #deephousemusic #housemusic #techhouse #techhousemusic #bpm #bpmfestival #rip #plur
